Reading level: Ages 13 and up
Hardcover: 352 pages
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books (September 6, 2011)
Grace just moved to San Francisco and is excited to start over at a new school. The change is full of fresh possibilities, but it’s also a tiny bit scary. It gets scarier when a minotaur walks in the door. And even more shocking when a girl who looks just like her shows up to fight the monster.
Gretchen is tired of monsters pulling her out into the wee hours, especially on a school night, but what can she do? Sending the minotaur back to his bleak home is just another notch on her combat belt. She never expected to run into this girl who could be her double, though.
Greer has her life pretty well put together, thank you very much. But that all tilts sideways when two girls who look eerily like her appear on her doorstep and claim they're triplets, supernatural descendants of some hideous creature from Greek myth, destined to spend their lives hunting monsters.
These three teenage descendants of Medusa, the once-beautiful gorgon maligned by myth, must reunite and embrace their fates in this unique paranormal world where monsters lurk in plain sight.
My Thoughts...
This was a hard review for me to write. On one hand I LOVED this book, but I find it hard to really talk about without giving too much away, so here is my attempt...
Gretchen, she is smart and well trained when it comes to mythological monsters. She is fierce, and determined and maybe a little tired.
Grace, having just moved to San Francisco she sees this an an opportunity to be a new person. She never expected to see a Minotaur walk into a restaurant! Maybe shy boring Grace wasn't so bad after all.
Greer, comes from a well off family, where her toughest choice is should there be be an ice sculpture for decoration at tea time.
The last thing any of these girls expected was to run into another girl wearing the same face. As we move through the story the girls all have to fall apart and come to there own decisions before they can come together and try to fulfill their destiny.
The world, monsters and alternate realities where these monsters are trying to escape from. Things the girls don't understand. They are in for the fight of their lives trying to save themselves and the world. I give this one 5 stars! It was fresh and original, with a great story and great characters!
I also gave this one 5 stars-- I absolutely loved it! I remember laughing the entire way through, and there was so much action going on that I couldn't put it down :) Definitely cannot WAIT for the second in this series to come out!!
