Review: Hereafter - Tara Hudson

  • Reading level: Young Adult
  • Hardcover: 416 pages
  • Publisher: HarperTeen (June 7, 2011)

Can there truly be love after death?
Drifting in the dark waters of a mysterious river, the only thing Amelia knows for sure is that she's dead. With no recollection of her past life—or her actual death—she's trapped alone in a nightmarish existence. All of this changes when she tries to rescue a boy, Joshua, from drowning in her river. As a ghost, she can do nothing but will him to live. Yet in an unforgettable moment of connection, she helps him survive.
Amelia and Joshua grow ever closer as they begin to uncover the strange circumstances of her death and the secrets of the dark river that held her captive for so long. But even while they struggle to keep their bond hidden from the living world, a frightening spirit named Eli is doing everything in his power to destroy their newfound happiness and drag Amelia back into the ghost world . . . forever.

My Thoughts...
I LOVED this book!  I really wasn't sure I was going to, I'm not usually a romance fan.  This book however had me from the start.  From pages one I was pulled in and it wouldn't let me go.  I loved learning along with Amelia,  I also found her to be a great character, she was strong and seemed to face even the things that scared her head on,.  Joshua in my opinion was also pretty great.  I admire his openmindedness.  Ruth...I think I am going to end up being in a minority, but I liked her.  She was trying to protect the people she loved the only way she knew how.  I really can't wait for the next book to see more of Ruth, and to see if any of her opinions changed from the first book.  The characters as you can tell in my opinion were great and this story never bored me, there was always something going on that compelled me to keep reading.  I give this one 5 stars and a huge recommendation!
